A Note from 1It’s May…another beautiful month to enjoy this springtime weather and attend all of the many wonderful events going on around town.  There is much to do in the SCV, so get ready for an exciting and busy May.
Throughout the years we have seen tremendous growth at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

The new buildings and facilities are absolutely beautiful, and much of the success of the hospital’s growth is due to the generosity of community members and businesses who support events such as the Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo Drive Safe Golf Classic, our cover story.  Now in its 41st year, the Golf Classic will be held on May 10 at the Valencia Country Club.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Emergency and Trauma Services at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.  See opposite page for details.
When you flip through the pages of this issue of The Magazine of Santa Clarita, you will notice a section we created dedicated to Old Town Newhall.  With all the beautification and revitalization projects coupled with exciting community wide events, there is a lot to celebrate in beautiful Old Town Newhall.  Take a visit, if you haven’t already done so.  We have highlighted many of the retailers and restaurant owners who proudly call Newhall their home, beginning on page 29.
About 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. live with Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited disease which affects the lungs and digestive system.  Thanks to the advances in science, the average lifespan is now in the late 30’s, a dramatic increase over the last three decades. Your support at events such as Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides Walk, which will take place on Saturday, May 3, is crucial.  Join a team, form a team and walk for a good cause.  For event details, see page 16.
Just the next day, the much-anticipated Taste of the Town will be taking place at Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia.  Enjoy an afternoon of delicious foods, drinks, live music and entertainment to benefit the Child & Family Center on Sunday, May 4.  See page 56 for details.
On Saturday, May 17, the Soroptimist International of SCV will be hosting their Gentlemen for a Cause at the Bridgeport Clubhouse.  You won’t want to miss this exciting event as Gentlemen will hit the catwalk for a great cause.  See page 17 for more information.
Another big event this month is the popular American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life SCV.  Show your support at the overnight event with thousands of others beginning on Saturday, May 17 at Central Park.   For more information on Relay For Life SCV, turn to page 11.
If you haven’t already noticed, cycling in the SCV has become a much loved activity.  We are pleased to welcome the Amgen Tour of California to our town on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17.  Be sure and check out page 18 and 19 for all the cycling events that surround the sport.
John F. Kennedy once said, “If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.”  We are pleased to sponsor the first annual Give ‘Em Hope BBQ, which will take place on Saturday, May 24 at the Richard Rioux Park in Stevenson Ranch.  Celebrate diversity over delicious food and fun.  See opposite page for details.
Dancing With Our Stars is back!  While the event is still a few months away, make sure you mark your calendars for Friday, August 22.  See page 14 for the non-profit organizations and celebrity dancers who have already signed on to be a part of this exciting event.
It’s the last month to enter to win a two-year lease for a brand new 2014 Acura ILX!  Earlier this year, we teamed up with Valencia Acura to bring the community an exciting sweepstakes.  Don’t miss out on your chance to win a two-year lease, an $8,500 value.  Turn to page 15 for more information on how you can enter.
Don’t forget to show your love and appreciation this Mother’s Day and thank her for all the wonderful things she has done for you. See page 48 for great Mother’s Day gift ideas.
We have also provided you with a comprehensive Physical Fitness Guide, beginning on page 120 to help you get into shape this summer. Be sure to also check out our Medical Guide, bringing you many listings on all types of medical offices and services offered in our Valley to help you find the right professional.  The Medical Guide begins on page 130.
Take a moment this Memorial Day, to honor the brave who have paid the ultimate sacrifice during their military service.  Our hearts are with those currently serving overseas and fighting for the many freedoms we enjoy today.
Have a wonderful month of May, and to all the mothers out there, have a wonderful Mother’s Day.
