From coast to coast, Americans spend the Fourth of July celebrating our nation’s independence.  From fireworks to parades, barbecues, celebrations and more, the Fourth of July is a day to honor America’s birthday.   Independence Day is also a very special day in Newhall.

An event that began in 1932, residents of the Santa Clarita gather to participate in one of the community’s longest traditions…the Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade.  Crowds line the streets, complete with flags to honor the good ol’ red, white and blue.  Come join us and celebrate our nation’s birthday.
There’s also much to celebrate in Old Town Newhall.  On our cover, we have featured some of the retailers and restaurant owners who proudly call Old Town Newhall their home.  From boutiques to pubs, art studios, fitness studios and more, Old Town Newhall is definitely worth a visit.  Spend the day perusing down Main Street and see all there is to offer.  A few months ago, we created a new section dedicated to Old Town Newhall in our May and June issue and have continued the section in this issue.  See opposite page for our cover story and turn to page 26 for the beginning of the Beautiful Old Town Newhall Section, and don’t forget to support our local businesses, as there are many benefits to shopping local.  We have also focused on the merchants of Westfield Valencia Town Center.  See our Westfield Focus on page 23 for places to dine, shop and much more.
Have you seen all the new businesses around town?  Santa Clarita is indeed the place to be and we welcome new companies to our community.  Get to know a little more about some of our advertisers who are new to The Magazine of Santa Clarita in our Meet the New Merchants feature beginning on page 24.
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Friday nights enjoying the lovely Santa Clarita weather, why not take a stroll down Town Center Drive to the Hyatt Valencia and listen to the extraordinary sounds from top Jazz and Blues recording artists at the Valencia Jazz and Blues Concert Series.  For details, turn to page 17.
Music performances are a summertime favorite, so don’t let the fun stop on Friday as the City of Santa Clarita hosts their free Concerts in the Park series every Saturday beginning on July 12 with DSB, America’s Favorite Tribute to Journey.  The Series will continue every Saturday through August at Central Park.
L.A. Summerfest also begins in July.  Get ready for a summer series full of performances at the Rivendale site at Towsley Canyon Park.  The festival will open with the 1st annual Americana Folkfest on Saturday, July 5.  See page 37 for a list of performances.
While we get ready for some more summer fun, we haven’t forgotten about all the fun events that have already taken place in our valley!  Take a moment to look through this issue and see what’s been going on around town in our On the Town with The Magazine of Santa Clarita features, as there are quite a few this month.
The fun still continues in the SCV as the Dancing With Our Stars event is back, so get your tickets if you haven’t done so already.  This year’s event, which will take place on August 22, promises to be even bigger and better than ever!  Turn to page 6 for complete details.
Speaking of superstars, we are so excited to welcome Grammy award winning country star LeeAnn Rimes to the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.  We are even more thrilled that she will grace the cover of the August/September issue of élite Magazine. Get ready to read all about LeeAnn in an exclusive cover story in the next issue of élite.
Early this year, we teamed up with Valencia Acura to bring you an exciting sweepstakes.  We are eager to announce the winner of the two-year lease, an $8,500 value, on the 2014 Acura ILX.  Stay tuned, as we will announce the winner in the August issue of The Magazine of Santa Clarita.
While July is a favorite time to vacation and lay by the pool, don’t forget to pamper yourself with one of the businesses listed in our Summertime Beauty Guide beginning on page 103.  The summer months are also a favorite time to spend outdoors, so be sure and check out our Outdoor Oasis Guide on page 151.
We hope you have a wonderful rest of the summer and a happy and safe Fourth of July.

Until Next Time,
Linda, Moe and Alex
