A Note from the Publishers – October 2015

by | Oct 1, 2015 | A Note From the Publisher

October has a lovely lineup of community events that are sure to put the treat in your “Trick or Treat” this season. Several activities, businesses and individuals have put time and effort into promoting Breast Cancer Awareness this month, and there is no shortage of ways to show your support.
Speaking of an abundance of support, the fundraising totals are in for our 6th Annual Dancing With Our Stars, and we’re shocked and humbled by the outpouring of community support! This year, our volunteer dancers, sponsors, partners and community members worked together to raise more than $300,000 in non-profit donations, pushing the cumulative total over $1 million in the six years we’ve hosted the event. Thank you Santa Clarita for embracing our event and non-profits in a way that allows us to truly make a difference.
Now it’s time to have a little more fun! And Child & Family Center’s Kid Expo promises to provide just that for the entire family. More than 100 exhibitors will showcase their products and services on October 18 at Golden Valley High School from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be activities from sports to crafts to storytelling, so bring the little ones!
Once the children have had their fill of fun, drop them off with the sitter and head out for an evening of the best wining and dining Santa Clarita has to offer at The Wine Affair. Hosted by Soroptimist International of Greater SCV, “Sip, Stroll and Savor the Sounds” serves up food, wine and entertainment at Westfield Valencia Town Center on Sunday, October 18 from 2-6 p.m.
After you’ve had your fill of heart-healthy red wine, why not participate in another activity that’s good for your heart? The American Heart Association is holding its Heart Walk on October 10 at Bridgeport Park, so spread the love with us this year!
As the summer slips away, savor the taste of outdoor cooking at the Fun in the Sun Chili Cook Off on October 17 at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center in Castaic. The event promises finger-licking good chili and benefits the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. But make sure you rest up and save some energy for LARC Ranch’s annual Carnival Extravaganza! This Mardi Gras-themed event offers lunch, music and vendors on October 18 at LARC Ranch in Bouquet Canyon. Then, what better way to kick off your week and say goodbye to the Monday blues than hitting the greens? The SCV Senior Center hosts its annual Golf Classic on October 19 at the TPC Valencia.
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month gains more and more support, you may be seeing more pink than orange this October, and we’ve got your fill of awareness information. From two calendars of events to editorials on prevention, our pages are full of the information you’ll need to stay healthy and support the cause. Check out Circle of Hope’s Annual Tea on Saturday, October 10 at Robinson Ranch for a way to celebrate the women in your life.
If you’re looking for Santa Clarita’s best services, look no further than our Medical Guide and revamped Dining Guide. In addition to our regular guides, we have a special Kids Expo Directory that showcases the local businesses that parents want to know about. And keep an eye out for some of them at the Child & Family Center’s Kid Expo event!
While you’ve got your eyes peeled, be on the lookout for our newest élite Magazine cover girl because she is just lovely. With an Emmy-nominated series under her belt and Santa Clarita in her heart, local resident Shanola Hampton gives élite an exclusive interview about life as a “Shameless” actress. As you peruse the pages, don’t forget to place your votes for SCV’s Ultimate Bridal Professionals. You can vote now until November 19.
Until next time,
Linda, Moe and Alexander Hafizi
