Lighting the Way For Future Generations

by | Oct 1, 2015 | Community

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night Walk funds treatments that are saving the lives of patients today. LLS is accelerating cures by providing patient support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments, and the most promising cancer research anywhere. And it’s all happening now.
Friends, families, and co-workers form fundraising teams and millions of consumers help by donating at retail outlets. These efforts culminate in inspirational, memorable evening walks in nearly 200 communities across North America each fall.
Every walker who raises $100 or more will become a Champion For Cures and will be recognized on the night of the Walk with a commemorative Light The Night t-shirt, our exclusive illuminated lantern and a food voucher for a variety of food and refreshments. Raise $1,000 or more and you become a member of our Bright Light Club. Members enjoy special recognition and exclusive gifts in honor of their extraordinary efforts in the fight against blood cancers.
The mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS is at the threshold of cures for more patients. Once unimaginable, safe and effective treatments are saving lives, today.
Light the Night Walk will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Bridgeport Park. Registration begins at 3:00 p.m. with the Walk Festivities beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Join us for a Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate lives lost to cancer at 4:00 PM. To register to walk please visit www.lightthenight.org.
For more information on how you can help and participate in the walk contact Sandi Naba, Campaign Assistant at Sandra.Naba@lls.org or 661-888-1153.
A story from Esther Vasquez:
My son Nathaniel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in March of 2008. He began his treatments, but unfortunately in August of 2009, Nathaniel had a central nervous system relapse that required a bone marrow transplant, which his older sister Viviana gifted. Nathaniel successfully completed his relapse treatment and has been cancer-free since December of 2009.
On July 22, 2015 Nathaniel is once again in the fight with cancer – this time Thyroid cancer – after being cancer-free for close to six years. It’s rare but not uncommon to develop secondary cancers from the original treatments.
What the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has done for my family in our time of need and dealing with cancer, is provided financial support assistants along with emotional support to help us in our difficult journey. The Leukemia and Lymphoma society has a mission of eliminating blood cancers and working toward more targeted treatments for these types of cancer, and now it’s my mission as well.
You can support the Vasquez family and others by participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk on November 14 at Bridgeport Park in Valencia. The walk kicks off at 3 p.m.
On our cover representing Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are (L-R) Front row: Nathaniel Vasquez, 2015 LLS Honoree; Tyler Cordova, 2014 LLS Honoree.
