Movies and their Music: SC Master Chorale Offers “An Affair to Remember”
So what’s your favorite movie? How old were you when you saw Casablanca for the first time? Is there any song more full of hope than Let the River Run in the end titles of Working Girl? Do you know all the words to Moon River?
No matter how you answered those questions, the Santa Clarita Master Chorale has the perfect evening for you. It’s our annual Cabaret and Cabernet celebration and fundraiser so for 2015, “Let’s Go to the Movies”. Join us Saturday, October 17 at 6 p.m. This popular evening of live music keeps growing so the event is moving to a larger space, the Bridgeport At Valencia Clubhouse.
A live band and 27 talented singers from the Chorale will be offering movie songs from Butch Cassidy to James Bond. Can you imagine those two outlaws without Burt Bacharach’s “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head?” Or Sean Connery floating away in a raft without John Barry’s dreamy “You Only Live Twice?” Daniel Craig without “SkyFall?” Neither can we.
Before we serve up our gourmet dinner, we will present tempting items from our Silent Auction for bidding. There might be original art or fun edibles to tickle your fancy — either for yourself or as a gift for someone special. Indeed, this event is a great chance to say “thank you” to your colleagues or gather your family for a special evening. Stay for the live auction: you might find yourself with a perfect spot for your next vacation.
In between delectable plates of food and sips of good wine, there will be more music. Can you recall the Poseidon Adventure without remembering Maureen McGovern’s classic hit?
The evening is Black Tie optional so feel free to get out your fancy duds and dress up for a great cause. This is the Chorale’s annual major fund-raiser for our concert season, our children’s choirs — which have grown into three graded groups — and our internship and music education programs here in the Santa Clarita Valley. Ticket are $100 per person and you can call the Chorale at 661-254-8886 and leave us a message. If you’ve sat in the magic of a dark theatre and ever had a song stick in your head or your heart, this evening is the ticket for you.
For more information or to purchase tickets, please call the Chorale at 661-254-8886.
