The Women of Color STEM Conference, recognizing the significant contributions of women in such fields, celebrated its 20th anniversary in Detroit this year with 1,500 attendees.
Santa Clarita resident Jessica Lee received a Special Recognition award for creating a STEM tutoring partnership between the Boston Scientific Women’s Network and Val Verde Youth Activities League.  Lee is the Senior Manager of Design Assurance and Risk Management for Boston Scientific.  She is a volunteer for the Santa Clarita Search and Rescue team, and a board member for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Foundation.
The conference offered two days of seminars with topics ranging from starting your own business to working at NASA.  Speaking engagements include the following notable speakers:
• The Honorable Dot Harris, nominated by President Obama as the Director of Design the Office of Economic Impact & Diversity at the U.S. Department of Energy
• Duy-Loan T. Le, the first woman and Asian elected as a Texas Instruments Senior Fellow, as well as a Guinness World Record holder for the fastest single-core DSP in the world
