Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Improving the Lives of Women through Service, Advocacy and Awareness.
Fifty-one influential individuals in the SCV have been recognized since 2005 by The Signal; they are individuals who have exercised their influence to create a better community for the residents of the SCV. Six Zontians were named to this prestigious group of individuals for their achievements in 2015. Kudos to three Zontians – Gloria Mercado-Fortine, Marlee Lauffer and Marsha McLean, who have received recognition in this exemplary group for 10 years – since the inception of “Santa Clarita’s most Influential 51”!
Marsha McLean, City of Santa Clarita Council member since 2002 and mayor in 2007 2011 and 2015, placed seventh this year. She is known for her advocacy for small business, increasing taxpayer reserves and expanding law enforcement and hospital facilities among many other achievements. Marlee Lauffer, VP of Marketing and Communications for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and President of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation, achieved 12th spot this year for her vision and dedication to the growth of the SCV; she will now bring her skill and professionalism to the hospital at a crucial time for the health care industry. Along with her many community involvements, she shares her expertise with various non-profit boards and advisory committees. Gloria Mercado-Fortine, shares 27th place with her husband, Bruce, the SCV education power couple, as they continue making decisions for the area’s largest school districts and support community nonprofits. Rosalind Wayman, the 34th spot, has played a leadership role for Supervisor Antonovich throughout the SCV; she addresses concerns regarding governance, constituent services, planning, roads and libraries, and is considered a problem-solver who delivers for the residents of the valley. Lois Bauccio, Executive Director of Child & Family Center Foundation has 38th spot for her passion to help children, youth and their families lead healthy, successful lives; Lois is one of three founding members of the Nonprofit Leadership Network, a mentoring collaborative with more than 75 member organizations. Linda Davies, Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, at 50th place, is the voice for those whose voices were taken away by domestic violence; she manages a 30-day shelter, a 24-hour crisis hotline and an outreach center. Zontians, we’re proud of you!
Lifeforward workshops will resume in January 2016 offering timely topics about filing income taxes, networking, resume writing, interviewing and more.
