Santa Clarita Has “Hearts for Heroes”

Community kids will honor first responders at the 12th annual “Hearts for Heroes” event, hosted by Prayer Angels for the Military. Come join the fun on Saturday, February 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 24547 Spruce St. in Newhall. It’s free and all ages are welcome to participate. Activities include making Valentine’s Day cards for our troops and veterans, firefighters, and sheriff’s deputies. There will be raffles, treats, and an opportunity to meet and thank local heroes. You’ll also be able to get up close to a fire truck and a military Humvee. These handmade, heartfelt cards will be proudly delivered to local fire stations, the sheriff’s department, a veterans’ hospital, and hundreds will be mailed to our troops overseas. The Albert Einstein Academy Schools will be participating again this year, and the SCV Young Marines, who have worked closely with the Prayer Angels for many years, will be assisting with the event. Over the last 12 years, local schools and youth groups have made thousands of wonderful cards for this event. If you can, bring a donation to be mailed out with the cards for our deployed troops. Most needed items: Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, individual drink packets for water bottles, and Valentines sweets. Tax-deductible cash donations to help with the postage and to support the event are also needed. Donations can also be mailed or dropped off at 21609 Oak Orchard Road, Newhall, CA 91321.
