TEDx Comes to Valencia

by | Feb 1, 2016 | Community

We are excited to announce Valencia High Schools’ first-ever TEDx talks on March 15 from 3:30-8 p.m. at Real Life Church in Valencia.
TED is an annual event that brings together the world’s leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline – technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business and development.  TED Talks, or conferences where speakers share their insights, are made available to view online at TED.com.
In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.  We are thrilled to be a TEDx licensee and are reaching out to a select group of businesses and individuals committed to the power of ideas to support our TEDx event.
The TEDx conference to be hosted by Valencia High School is themed “Unexpected.”  The goal is to ignite conversations among our student body using diverse examples of the unexpected, prompting students to think differently, challenge the status quo and grow.  Our goal is to generate an aftermath of conversations among people that wouldn’t normally speak to each other, with questions they wouldn’t normally ask.
We want to expose the students to examples of unexpected warriors who are championing powerful social change, who are using urban policies in unexpected ways to change a dangerous community into a productive eco-system, and who are leaving a piece of themselves on their own unexpected canvas.
Our speaker lineup includes:
• Ray Lewis – 2x Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP, 13x Pro Bowl
• Christina Perri – “Thousand Years,” “Human,” and “Jar of Hearts”
• Shelene Bryan – Founder SKIP1.org; speaker and author of Love, Skip, Jump; film producer
• Jared Emerson – Artist, Speaker, Former Athlete
• Shawn Gordon – Director Project Bayview, San Francisco
• Jason Russell – Co-founder of Invisible Children, Director of Kony 2012, USC graduate
