A Note from the Publishers – March 2016

by | Mar 1, 2016 | A Note From the Publisher

Spring is upon us!  As that lovely California sunshine sets the valley abloom, Santa Clarita is livening up with a fresh lineup of community events – and this season there’s something for everyone!
On our cover, we’re proud to feature three very different events: the Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley Fashion Show, SCV Charity Chili Cook-Off, and Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley’s Lunafest.  With fundraisers like these, there’s no reason to stay indoors this beautiful spring season.
First up is the Fashion Show.  Appropriately themed Fashion in Bloom, this year’s event will feature the ever-popular Male Model Contest, as well as some of SCV’s trendiest retailers for women and men alike.  Be sure to shop the boutique before lunch, and cheer on your friends as you watch them strut the runway.  Don’t miss it March 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hyatt Regency Valencia.
Off the runway, we have two excellent outings coming up in April.  In its third year, the SCV Charity Chili Cook-Off promises more chili than you can eat, lots of dancing and some friendly competition as SCV’s best chefs vie for that coveted spot at the top.  The event benefits three charities this year: Single Mothers Outreach, SCV Food Pantry, and SRD-Straightening Reins.  Please join us on April 19 at 5:30 p.m. in their new location, Wolf Creek Brewery in the Rye Canyon Loop.
Once you’ve had your fill of chili, save room to feast your eyes on Zonta Club of SCV’s Lunafest, a film festival of productions made by, for and about women.  A perfect event for mothers, daughters and your best girls, this event will bring both tears to your eyes and a smile to your face.  The lineup of films is fantastic this year, and the company will be even better.  Get your tickets for April 28 at 6 p.m. at Canyon Theatre Guild.
But you won’t have to wait until April for an excuse to bring the women in your life together for an evening of fun and laughter.  Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley hosts Gentleman for a Cause on March 6 at the Santa Clarita Activities Center, starting at 5:30 p.m.  When will you have another chance to bid on Santa Clarita’s most handsome men, all in the name of charity?
You can take another shot at raising support for a good cause at the 5th Annual Special Olympics Hoops of Hope Shoot-a-Thon on March 26 at the City of Santa Clarita Sports Complex.  Whether you’re a former basketball star or you haven’t picked up a ball in years, we invite you to join the fun and raise money for this wonderful charity.  Turn to the Community section for more information on all these events.
Also in this issue, we feature three guides and two directories: CPA Tax Directory, Education and Camps Guide, Spring Home & Garden Directory, Dining Guide and Meet the New Merchants.  We love to see an issue full of guides and directories because it means our pages are overflowing with information about local businesses – and it’s information you can’t find anywhere but right here in The Magazine of Santa Clarita.  Please join us in supporting the local businesses that make this magazine possible!  By supporting us, our advertisers also support the non-profits and worthy organizations you see featured here, investing in a stronger community for all of us.
Speaking of outstanding businesses, have you voted for your favorite élite Magazine Ultimate Fitness and Beauty Professionals?  Things are heating up, and the votes are pouring in!  Don’t miss out on your chance to say thank you to the professionals you love.  And be on the lookout for the April/May issue – it’s going to be a beautiful one!
