A Note from the Publishers – April 2016

by | Apr 1, 2016 | A Note From the Publisher

With such a wonderful event on our cover, we wanted to offer something a little different – a little more – than our usual this year.  Not only do we feature a new, fresh look at Child & Family Center’s Taste of the Town on our cover, but we also offer a special Taste of the Town Dining Guide that highlights our loyal customers.  In addition to editorial on Taste of the Town, a full list of participants can be found in the Dining Section, so you can plan your best year ever at this wonderful fundraiser.  We hope to see you there!
You may notice another new addition this month, as we showcase our sponsored events with a “stamp of approval.”  These are the events we are able to sponsor because of the generous support of our advertisers and partners.  By supporting The Magazine of Santa Clarita – as a reader, advertiser or friend – you are not only supporting our community publication but also these wonderful events and the charities they benefit.  Together, we can build a better Santa Clarita.
While browsing the Community Section and our special “stamped” events, you’ll notice there is a wealth of social events in April.  Kicking off the month, the Special Olympics Hoops for Hope Shoot-a-thon on April 4 is sure to be a great time for the entire family.  Hosted at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, this event features music, an auction and a ½-court shot.
If an event with comfort food and lively dancing is more your style, the SCV Charity Chili Cook-off on April 19 raises money for two wonderful causes: Single Mothers Outreach and the SCV Food Pantry.  In addition to an impressively large and delicious spread of chilis to taste, this event features a wonderful judging panel and the return of Chef Jimmy!  Try out this event at their new Wolf Creek Brewery location on Rye Canyon Loop.
For a movie night out, Zonta Club of Santa Clarita invites you to Lunafest, a film festival of screening made by, for and about women.  Mothers, daughters, sisters and friends will gather on April 28 at Canyon Theatre Guild in Old Town Newhall for a night of laughter and tears, shared with those closest to you.
One of Santa Clarita’s most anticipated arts and music festivals, Summer Meltdown will rock the house on April 30 with well-known bands, live performances and extraordinary artwork on display.  This quickly growing event attracts an enthusiastic audience and supports Autism awareness.
In addition to events, we announce the results of the cutest pet contest. Thank you for submitting your beautiful pet photographs, we received over 150 a selection of which you can view on pages 92 and 94.
This issue is full of Guides to help you find the services you need for the season.  Visit our Ka’ching! CPA Guide for your last chance at superior tax services – don’t miss out on last-minute help from these experts.  Our Beauty Guide has a little something for everyone – whether you’re looking for skin and body care, weight loss services, hair stylists or more.  For those special furry friends in your life, take a look at our All About Pets Directory; we’ve got information about services you may not even have known were available in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Speaking of hidden gems, we’ve got one coming for you next month with our annual Old Town Newhall Section, which also will be printed as a separate tab and distributed throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  This guide will feature many of the businesses you love in Old Town Newhall and some of the ones you may not have yet discovered.  If you’re an Old Town Newhall business and want to know more about getting on our July cover, please give us a call at 661-294-4444.
Spring is abuzz with the changing weather and seasons – but also our newest issue of élite Magazine!  If you haven’t seen our April/May issue yet, be sure to take a look at this beautiful new issue.  On our cover, we feature Tanya Tucker, a country music legend who has changed the genre and been an inspiration to stars who followed in her footsteps.  Inside, you’ll find a tribute to local mothers and daughters in honor of Mother’s Day, as well as more stories than ever on interesting local people.  You won’t read about them anywhere else than in élite Magazine!
Can’t get enough élite?  Be sure to vote for your favorite restaurants in our Ultimate Dining Awards, live now on www.scvelitemagazine.com.  Only your votes will determine the best eateries in the SCV!
