A Note from the Publishers – June 2016

 June is a month for the arts here in Santa Clarita, with several events and shows you won’t want to miss, as well as one of our favorite family friendly events of the year.
You may recognize one of our cover stars from a recent issue of élite Magazine, but she is so fun, we couldn’t resist featuring her this month, too.  Country music icon Tanya Tucker will be performing at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center for one night only on June 4.  Benefitting the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Foundation, the concert brings together two entertainers in just one night – opening with comedian Tom Arnold.  Don’t miss this incredible night!
Also on our cover, the annual Touch-A-Truck event on June 18 provides some family fun!  Not only do children get a chance to see rescue vehicles up close and personal, but they also get to meet the heroes who operate them.  Get to know and support your local first responders during this wonderful event, which supports the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
Motown in Town Dinner and Show is shaking things up on June 26 at the grand ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Valencia, benefitting the SCV Senior Center.  Featuring an exciting and colorful live concert that will celebrate the nostalgic songs of Motown, Stone Soul and Ms. Alex Nester will be performing.  Santa Clarita Artist Association artists will host a Motown-inspired art show to follow, as well.
The soul music doesn’t stop there, however.  Get ready for the Jazz and Blues Concert Series, starting June 17, on Town Center Drive in front of Hyatt Regency Valencia.  In a quaint street party setting, this event offers interactive activities for adults and children alike.  Guests can of course expect some of the top Jazz and Blues recording artists in the world, as well.  Held each Friday evening until August 5, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to take in the soulful sounds of jazz with this lovely event.
In case you missed any events last month, this issue is full of our On The Town features, giving you a chance to feel like you were there.  Did you happen to attend some recent events?  Flip through the pages to see if you can spot yourself in some of our many staff photos!
Also in this issue are two guides and the second edition of our special Old Town Newhall section.  Our guides – the Summer Activities Directory and Dads & Grads Gift Guide – are perfect for your family, covering everything from the best ways to spend the summer season to gifts for Father’s Day and those special youngsters in your life who are moving on to adulthood.
Last month in our Old Town Newhall section, we brought you editorials about each of the businesses in that area, helping readers get acquainted with Newhall products and services.  This month, you can hear from the businesses themselves as they describe current deals and provide further information.  What will we do next month?  Watch out for our special Old Town Newhall cover in July!
