Nurturing Hearts and Minds Since 1976 – Town and Country Farm School Celebrates 40 years

by | Jun 1, 2016 | Education

At Town & Country Farm School, children make discoveries about nature and life through a program rich in sensory learning.  Within their licensed, five-acre campus, children encounter farm animals, fruit trees, gardens and plenty of open space.  The early American setting and nature provide real rather than contrived discoveries for children.
I was introduced to Town & Country Farm School about 10 years ago, through The Magazine of Santa Clarita.  Part of my job includes proofing the advertisements, and one of them was for Town & Country Farm School.  At the time I was 26 and had no children. I remember proofing the ads and thinking, if I did, I would send them to Town & Country Farm School.  It was just a feeling, but something about the rural environment and their approach to teaching had stood out to me … and stuck with me. When I had my first child in 2013, I knew T&C was the perfect place for our family.  Benjamin began at T&C when he was eight months old, and not only did he flourish in his development but our schedule at home also balanced out.  The loving and caring environment T&C provided for Ben allowed him to get the most out of his daily experience.  Our nights became routine, and his bedtime improved as well — less fussiness/fighting and more story time fun.  Ben is now three years old and has a love for learning that I completely credit to Town and Country Farm School. Words truly cannot express my gratitude to Miss Diane and her staff for the caring environment they provide for my son!
The school philosophy from 1976 to today has remained the same: The rural atmosphere of Town & Country Farm School was developed to interest, fascinate and expose children to a “hands-on” experience with nature.  T&C believes that before a child begins to read and perform other academic tasks, they must first gather meaning and develop concepts from the world around them.
“Town & Country Farm School started development with six partners in 1973.  We wanted to provide a unique child care facility for Santa Clarita.  It took three years for all of the permits, designs and building to take place.  In May of 1976, we opened our doors.  We have thrived through the economy’s ups and downs as well as the changes in technology,” says Diane Schlander, co-owner of Town & Country Farm School.  “Children, like nature, reflect the love and care that is given to them.”
Town & Country Farm School was specifically designed to meet the needs and regulations in caring for children today and the future.  Their professional staff and child-oriented programs have been dedicated to providing a caring, educational, safe and happy place for our children.
And today you will find co-owners Dick and Diane Schlander happily greeting their children and parents daily as they walk in, ready to start their days of learning, exploring and most of all, having fun with their friends!
