Roy Is Off and Running
Building on the success of his previous two runs to raise money for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer, Burbank resident and ultra marathon runner Roy Wiegand is planning to run from the Burbank Tennis Center to Children’s Hospital Orange County and back again on Friday, June 3. The 24-hour event will end with a carnival at the Burbank Tennis Center on Saturday, June 4. All proceeds from this run and event will go to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer.
Wiegand did his first run for MHF in 2014, in honor of Christopher Wilke, a 12-year-old boy who died of cancer of the bile ducts on March 20, 2014. This special run has raised more than $24,000 for the foundation over the last two years.
“We are amazed and grateful for Roy’s dedication each year,” said Gillian Stone, executive director of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation. “It is a testament to our expanded community that we can rely on the kindness of people such as him to help us carry out our mission.”
During Roy’s Run for Christopher, Wiegand will also be stopping at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. He will have a racing stroller with him, which can hold up to 100 pounds. He would love to give rides to kids along the way.
Donations for this run can be made directly to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation (mhf.org). People can join Wiegand along the way for any distance they would like.
The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for children’s cancer is a public non-profit 501(c) (3) foundation serving children and families touched by pediatric cancer in the Santa Clarita and surrounding valleys.
