Why are you having a Wedding Reception?

by | Jul 1, 2016 | Community

Weddings have never been more creative and unique as they are today. There are so many themes and colors to select from as well as all of those choices for décor, food, entertainment, photography, video, invitations, flowers…etc.  Now let’s talk about your budget, how do you create the unique and amazing wedding you want and stay at least close to your budget? Here are some things to consider when planning your wedding day.
Your reception can be up to 90 percent or more of your budget and I have noticed that today most couples plan their weddings the same way we go grocery shopping when we’re hungry. You know the feeling, everything looks good so you put it in the cart and then $300 later you get home and make cereal. Had you known that cereal would have satisfied your hunger you could have just purchased some milk and a box of cereal, mission accomplished for just $10!
Most couples start putting things in to their wedding shopping cart because I saw this on my Pinterest board, saw it in a YouTube video, read about it in a magazine or blog or David Tutera said you should do it at your wedding. This also happens because you saw something your friend did at her wedding. Keep in mind that all of this shopping happens before you’ve asked yourself, “Why are we having a reception?”
Here’s something that can help you. At the end of your reception, what are the comments you would like your guests to say about your reception that will make you feel that putting on this amazing day was worth it? How beautiful it was, the food was delicious, what an incredible view, it was so unique, wow I’ve never danced so much or even “it was the best reception I have ever attended!”
Once you define the answers that will really excite you, ask yourself this “Which vendors will have the most impact to make those comments happen for you?” This will help you to prioritize the vendors for your wedding. If “beautiful” is one of your words then flowers, lighting, linens and furniture will be important to you. If it’s the view, location or food then obviously the venue and caterer should be on top of your list. If it’s how much fun they had, then your entertainment, DJ, MC and even photo booth will be important elements for you.
Remember, every wedding service is not equally important to everyone. The key is to clarify what is important to you. Then go find the wedding experts that will help you to create the memorable experience you truly want and deserve.
