14th Annual Rubber Ducky Festival, Free Community Festival Coming in October!

by | Aug 1, 2016 | Community

The 14th Annual Rubber Ducky Festival will take place on Saturday, October 1 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Bridgeport Park in Valencia.  The free, family festival kicks off at 11 a.m. with a manmade “pond” and raceway!  Several race heats will occur throughout the day, with approximately 5,000 rubber ducks racing to compete for the top prizes.  Grand prizes for the event include the following cash prizes: $2,500; $1,500; and $500.
Local vendors and non-profit community partners help make up the event, which also presents a stage program filled with local children’s talent and performers.  A free “Kid Zone” area takes up the center of the event, complete with a rock climbing wall, face-painting, balloon artists, air bouncer, games, activities and an appearance of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s “Shakey Quakey” house.
In addition to the signature rubber duck races, the event includes a food court area, including popular gourmet food trucks such as: The Griddler Truck, Spyros Gyros, Just in Flavor, and Ice Boxx!
Raffle tickets will also be available throughout the day at the event, for chances to win more great prizes from vendors such as Valencia Laser Blast, Salon Centric, MadCap Balloon Artists, Ice Station Valencia and more.
All racing ducks are adopted by community members.  Individual rubber ducks are available for adoption at $5 per duck.  Online adoptions are now open at duckrace.com/scv.  Other adoption opportunities include: Quack Family (5 ducks plus 1 free duck for $25); Quacker’s Dozen (10 ducks plus 2 free ducks for $50) and Duck Flock (20 ducks plus 4 free ducks for $100).
Did you know you can raise money for your organization by participating in our giveback program?  For every $5 duck adopted, your organization will receive $1 of back, at the conclusion of the event – that’s 20 percent for each $5 duck adopted!  You can create your adoption team online at duckrace.com/scv and start earning today!
Once again, SDFHC is honored to have Supervisor Michael Antonovich return as our Honorary Chairman of the event, with community partner Alan Ferdman in the role of Chairman for the Rubber Ducky Planning Committee.
All proceeds from this event support patient care services at SDFHC, which offers affordable, quality, primary health care for residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.  SDFHC makes a special effort to serve the under and uninsured.  The 2015 event provided more than 2,200 patient visits for those who may not otherwise be able to afford care.
SDFHC, in collaboration with the City of Santa Clarita, will recycle the water used during the Rubber Ducky Festival during this time of severe drought.
SDFHC thanks our sponsors of this year’s event: The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation, Boston Scientific, Kaiser Permanente, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club, Learn 4 Life and Mission View Public Charter School, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Burrtec Industries, and Kiwanis Club of Glendale.
