Announcing the Best Teacher Contest Winner SCV residents nominated their favorites – see who won!
I wanted Mrs. Iles as my teacher ever since first grade. She is kind, generous, and thoughtful. At the beginning of the year, she welcomed us into her classroom with LOTS of candy and love. If you are having a hard time at home, or at school, you can always talk to her about ANYTHING you need to. She will even take time out of the school day and take you into the hallway to chat, while the other students work independently.
Mrs. Iles has a very organized classroom, which makes it easier for her fifth graders to get what they need. If you break your pencil, she has a bin of mechanical pencil packs that she has bought with her own money, that she will willingly give you.
Mrs. Iles has us switch seats every 4 weeks. Some teachers NEVER switch seats, which is annoying. If you get stuck next to someone that you don’t necessarily like, you are only next to them for 1 month. She actually gets us as kids, and not only students. I absolutely love helping her after school, or in summer. She makes helping her fun with music and candy. If you ever disobey her, or are just a pain, you will never get in “trouble.” She will talk to you and make you realize that, even though what you did was wrong, you still have the rest of the day to turn your behavior around.
Art is really fun in Mrs. Iles class. Not only does she find the cutest artwork to try, but she also brings in all of the other crazy fifth graders in to do art with us. Many times, she takes pictures of us and sends “updates” of the day to our parents. For Open House, I have always thought that her classroom is the best of all. She finds creative ways to hang things, including the ceiling. The class is colorful and clean for all of the parents to see for Open House. It is now approaching the end of the year, and things are really fun for us. Mrs. Iles has us doing fun learning things, such as mystery picture graphing, math scavenger hunts, and even a colonial play.
I will be sad leaving fifth grade, but I will be happy knowing that I had an epic second-to-last year in elementary school. I want to thank Mrs. Iles for being the best teacher ever, even without a contest.
