A Note From the Publishers – December 2016

by | Nov 29, 2016 | A Note From the Publisher

For us at The Magazine of Santa Clarita, December marks another holiday season – and another year in business in this wonderful community.  We can’t believe it’s been 27 years since we first published, but we are honored to have witnessed the growth of this community.  Year after year, we’ve been there – cheering on our community’s non-profits at countless fundraisers and showing support when so many of today’s treasured local businesses first opened their doors.  We’ve heard the stories of this community’s most influential, inspiring and admirable residents, and shared in both the Santa Clarita Valley’s most tragic and celebratory moments.  With each passing issue, we’ve been touched by both the simplest and most monumental stories.  And after 27 years, we couldn’t dream of a better way to invest our time and hearts than in the support of this community.  Thank you for reading, we hope you enjoy our final issue of 2016!
Before the year’s end, there are a handful of wonderful events coming up to help everyone get into the true spirit of the season.  HandsOn Santa Clarita kicks off the holiday festivities with their annual Holiday 5k/10k at Six Flags magic Mountain on Saturday, December 10.  Participants get to see behind the scenes of Six Flags Magic Mountain by running around and under rides while the park is all decked out for the holidays.  This is a fantastic way to keep health, happiness and charity at the forefront of your holiday season, whether you go with family, friends or just your running shoes.
Also on Saturday, December 10, JCI Santa Clarita is hosting Santa’s Helpers at Valencia Ice Station at 2:30 p.m.  For 18 years, the local Jaycees have provided holiday cheer to hundreds of children in our community by gathering and wrapping donated gifts for Santa to pass out to children in need.  Children also get to enjoy an afternoon on the ice, as well as a pizza party with dessert, crafts, face painting and a guided Lego build.  While this event is only open to families who qualify, donated gifts are in need.
After the holiday season, there will still be more good spirit to enjoy as the men of Black Violin perform at the Santa Clarita Performign Arts Center on Friday, January 20, 2017.  One of Black Violin’s main goals is changing perception and defying stereotypes, both musical and social.  They enjoy changing people’s perception of what violin and hip-hop music can do, and hope their shows inspire listeners to be better people.  We hope you enjoy this lovely concert!
Also on the holiday event lineup is Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Holiday Home Tour, a spectacular event that we love to attend eah and every year.  The Santa Clarita Valley’s most luxurious and beautiful homes are decorated in their holiday best, according to a different theme for each house, and the community is invited to walk through and tour the home, while docents share information about the decorating process.  If you love holiday décor, this is not an event to be missed!  “The Home Tour, a Special Gala” will be held on Friday, December 2, offering a preview glimpse of the homes from 6 to 9 p.m. and a festive buffet dinner at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  The following day four spectacular homes will be decked out in true holiday splendor from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cheers,
Linda, Moe & Alexander Hafizi
