A Note From the Publishers – November 2016
The holidays are upon us once again, and with the changing of seasons comes a lineup of beautiful autumn events.
Sunset in the Vineyard, hosted by Assistance League Santa Clarita, offers guests an easy afternoon in the fall breeze. Set amongst two sloping backyard vineyards in Newhall, this event signals the start of fall. Wine from all our local winemakers and wine enthusiasts will be filling up glasses, and tasty bites and snacks will fill up stomachs. Don’t miss this spectacular fundraiser on November 6.
On November 4, Zonta Tribute will honor one of Santa Clarita’s most significant women, Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook, Chancellor of College of the Canyons. Few have impacted this valley and its young people in such a grand sense as Dr. Van Hook, and with Zonta’s focus on education, she is a perfectly fitting choice for this year’s recognition. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Van Hook for this wonderful honor!
Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is helping residents get ready for the holidays early this year with their beloved Festival of Trees event. Complete with craft lessons, entertainment, a magic show, auctions and, of course, plenty of stunning trees, this annual event is perfect for families looking for a little holiday spirit. We hope you kick off your holidays with some good charity and a ton of fun at Festival of Trees.
November 5 is a busy day, with three events to choose from, all of which support incredibly worthy causes. This year’s Special Olympics Bunco Tournament is pirate-themed and sure to feel like an adventure! Costumes can range from full dress to a simple eye patch, which may just help you with your poker face. Guests will enjoy an exciting afternoon of bunco, snacks and a raffle at the City of Santa Clarita Activities Centre.
Also that Saturday, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is hosting their annual Light the Night walk. The campaign originally was created as a way for millions across the nation to come together to take a stand and fundraise for a cure. The yearlong efforts of each team culminate in one inspirational, memorable evening walk where participants carry beautifully illuminated lanterns against a dark sky. It’s a sight to see!
Just in case you didn’t get your fill of walking on November 5, the Diabetes Step Out Walk will be held at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Every dollar raised plays an important role in supporting the American Diabetes Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. After the event, walkers can even enjoy free access to the rest of the park until the park closes.
In addition to the latest Santa Clarita happenings, we have three wonderful guides and directories in this issue. Our Arts & Entertainment Directory keeps residents informed about Santa Clarita’s budding arts and entertainment district, whether you’re looking for a little culture, a lot of fun or just a nice night out. Our Holiday Beauty Gift Guide is sure to help you get two steps ahead of the rest when it comes to holiday shopping. Whether you need ideas or a game plan, this guide will help you knock things off that holiday list with enough time to enjoy a warm cup of tea by the fire.
Here’s to the start of another wonderful holiday season!
Happy Thanksgiving,
Linda, Moe & Alexander Hafizi
