Spotlighting Our Youth – Chance Rich and young VHS wrestling team make their mark

by | Feb 22, 2017 | Community

Just three years in the making, the Valencia High School wrestling team is off to a noteworthy start, and local resident Chance Rich is a huge reason why.  From the start, the VHS wrestling team presented a strong opening season, with Chance leading the way, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
“He reached the CIF Southern Section Coastal Division final with three victories, before being pinned by Quartz Hill senior and state medalist Randon Miranda,” according to the Daily News.  “Rich won twice in his Masters Meet debut, before losing in the ninth-place semifinals, coming up two victories shy of a trip to the state tournament.”
With so much positive momentum, Chance was named Newcomer of the Year by the Daily News during his first year on the team and as a freshman in high school.  In his second season, Chance won CIF and placed 2nd in Masters.  Currently, he is ranked No. 2 on Calgrappler State Rankings and fourth on CCS rank.com in the 120-pound division for the state of California.  And Chance’s success mirrors the success of the whole team.  The Valencia Vikings Wrestling Team made the CIF Team Finals in Southern Section Championships and finished in a close match, synching second place – an impressive feat considering the program’s youth.
Team supporters are looking forward to see what the Vikings accomplish at upcoming CIF and Masters championships, as well as a hopeful qualification for the State Championship, which hasn’t seen a Santa Clarita team compete in more than 45 years!
Please join The Magazine of Santa Clarita in congratulating Chance Rich on his early success and bright future!
