Calling All Collectors and Friends of Collectors!
What do you enjoy collecting? Teacups? Porcelain dolls? Vintage glass? Old-school vinyl albums? Perhaps you’ve had a collection passed down to you from a loved one. It can be so much fun to go treasure hunting to add to these collections. We would like to invite you to Assistance League Resale for your next shopping trip! We have trinkets and other delights coming in on a daily basis. Our housewares department is overflowing with extraordinary pieces at a fraction of the usual cost.
But what do you do when you are more of a minimalist and you have a loved one who was a collector who tragically passed away? Or you are helping a friend who simply does not have enough room for all the treasures belonging to a loved one? This was the case for Carolyn Lodes, one of our member-volunteers. Her story follows:
My dear friend Viki Rudolph Black passed away on December 31, 2016. She served as the Executive Vice President of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce from 1981 to 1994. I worked with Viki for over 10 years during which time she taught me the importance of professionalism. She was a hard worker with an amazing work ethic and she raised the Chamber to a new level. Viki was a leader in economic development before the formation of the city and was also a mentor to many current Santa Clarita business leaders.
Viki’s husband, Walter Black, an Iowa native, began giving Viki the gift of collectable pigs. Her love of pigs continued after Walter’s passing so friends and family would add to that collection on birthdays, holidays and just to show they cared.
After I retired from the Chamber, I began volunteering at Assistance League Santa Clarita. I admired many things about this organization; especially the fact that every dollar raised stays right here in our community. That’s why when Viki passed away and her family was having a difficult time parting with the things that meant so much to her, I knew just the place to suggest. A place where a collector would fall in love with Viki’s collection and where the money raised from it would go right back into the community she valued so highly.
Keep Assistance League Resale in mind for your treasure hunts and for a place where treasures will be valued.
Assistance League Resale is located at 24364 Main Street in downtown Newhall. We are open Monday and Wednesday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. We are happy to take your gently used donations.
