Empowering HeArts – Nominations Due August 14
Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) has begun preparations for their eighth annual Empowering HeArts fundraising gala set to take place on February 10, 2018 at the Savia Community Center. SMO is proud to announce this year’s theme is “Resilience.”
This annual fundraising gala brings the community together to celebrate women who have helped shape lives and the community in the midst of adversity, while raising funds to support the mission of SMO. Empowering HeArts bridges the worlds of social action and artistic expression by pairing inspirational women and artists of Santa Clarita. These local artists create art forms that depict the moving stories of these women.
It is the hope of Single Mothers Outreach that in portraying the impactful stories of these extraordinary women, others may be inspired to rise above their own circumstances.
Honorees are nominated by the community and selected by the Single Mothers Outreach Board of Directors and Empowering HeArts planning committee. Therefore, SMO invites the community to take part in nominating inspiring women using the guidelines posted on our website, www.singlemothersoutreach.org.
SMO also seeks six artists to each be paired with one of our six honorees to tell her story in the medium of photography, collage, painting or sculpture. A panel of industry experts will judge artists and the grand-prize winner will be announced at the gala and will be featured in a tribute program describing each woman’s story.
The awards during the event include the “Dottie Award,” which is awarded to the artist who depicts the most compelling visual story and the “People’s Choice,” awarded by gala attendees who vote at the event.
For more information on the Empowering HeArts artist guidelines and to submit entry, visit www.singlemothersoutreach.org under the Empowering HeArts tab. The deadline for artist applications and honoree nominations is August 14, 2017.
Empowering HeArts is the signature fundraising event for Single Mothers Outreach, all proceeds from sponsorships, tickets sales and product sales support SMO’s mission to “empower single parents and their children by providing hope, support, and resources so that families can become self-sustaining and thrive.”
