Remembering Our Dear Friend Judith Enzer Harris
We lost a true community treasure on July 15 when Judith Enzer Harris died. A veteran psychotherapist, cherished humorist, popular lecturer, author, two-time cancer survivor, friend to all, and beloved matriarch, Judy was an inspiring counselor and nurturer to thousands of people throughout her many years as a mental health professional. Her areas of expertise were plentiful: Managing life, work and relationship difficulties; grief/losing loved ones; facing serious health battles; coping with the challenges of caregiving; living with the vicissitudes of aging, and more. She participated in countless lectures and workshops in this valley and beyond, many infused with brilliant thoughts and levity from some of her favorite sages — from the Talmud to Woody Allen, Nietzsche to Sam Levinson, Freud to Erma Bombeck. Judy passionately worked up until her death. An active 75-year-old, she had recently spoken at the inaugural SCV Cancer Survivor Day. Raising spirits and smiles, she talked about “Suffering in Style” (one of her favorite topics) — how to survive life’s difficulties in the most positive, enlightened, and grateful manner. We feel deep sadness over Judy’s sudden passing, but take comfort in knowing that her rich legacy will long remain in our hearts and consciousness. A bright light and true mensch, Judy will be missed.
