Tell Me Something Good – September 2017
I feel very fortunate each month to write a column that’s sole purpose is to spread positive news, and share the accomplishments of the fantastic residents in our City. I am able to hop onto social media and with a quick scroll I can find one to two bits of great news each day. We also love to share your submissions, so keep sending them to contest@santaclaritamagazine.com.
“I’m not sure if this will reach them or maybe even their parents if they are in this group but I just want to give a huge shout out to these wonderful girls for doing the right thing and turning my phone into the front of Valencia H&M yesterday. Anyone easily could have taken it and probably sold it for cash but instead these girls found my phone saw I had a missed call from My Fiancé (my phone has a passcode) they actually knew to slide the last missed call to call him and let him know they found my phone and were leaving it at the front desk.
Back story: I went to try on a dress and I realized I left my phone on the bench where I was trying on shoes and panicked! This other wonderful woman (not pictured) and her daughters helped me look around and she even let me use her daughters, phone to call mine. She then asked the front desk if someone had just turned in a phone and lo and behold there it was! It’s truly a heart-warming feeling to know there are still good people out there in the world that are willing to help and to do the right thing. So, if you girls happen to see this or anyone knows these two tell them 1 million times I say thank you!” – Sarah Nichole Lauterbach via Facebook
Saugus Union School District shared last month: “We learned that the Hart 10u Gold team won the Pony Baseball Mustang League World Series. The championship, won in Youngsville, Louisiana over the weekend, caps off a great summer vacation for this special team comprised of players from across the SCV. The team bested other squads from around the world (40 total countries) to go 4-0 in the tournament defeating Mexico 11-1, in the final. While we congratulate the entire team and its coaches, we are especially proud of Ryan De La Maza, from #SantaClarita Elementary; Drew Provost, from #Mountainview and Dominick Zambrano, from #PlumCanyon. Congratulations World Champions!” Shared via Facebook
“I would like to send out a shout out to the City of Santa Clarita for taking care of the city sidewalks. My husband and I have lived in this city for 28 years. In that time, we have seen this Valley grow tremendously. Love the fact that our tax dollars are always put to good use. Last year I sent a note to the City because the sidewalks around my neighborhood were in need of repair (some a lot more than others.) Not only did I get contacted within a day, but a representative of the City came to my house to talk to me about them. I have to say after a year all the work is done, the sidewalks now look great, and my neighbors as well as I can walk with or without the dogs without tripping all over. I just wanted the City and the city workers to know that the work they do doesn’t go unnoticed.” – Elisabeth Villagrasa, via email
Our last bit to share came from Miriam B. Estrada via The Santa Clarita Community FB page. She shared, “Last Wednesday on our way to my sons Football practice we ended up stranded in Valencia. While other cars honked and passed us because we were blocking, there was an angel who pulled over and asked if I needed help. He first pushed my vehicle out of harm’s way and then got on his phone and made some calls. By this time, I was crying because only God knows how many things we had to deal with that day. I tried to tell him “thank you” and I could take it from there. But he didn’t let me say much. He said, “Listen I’m going to have someone bring gas and get you going.” He personally put the gas in my car and tried to start it but it wouldn’t start. So, he then asked the other gentleman to take my niece, son and I to my son’s football practice and to go to the parkway dealership to go get some wires and come back to start my car. I still can’t believe it. He had someone stay with me until I had a working car. He didn’t have to do all of that to begin with and he did! During the whole thing I find out this man is the owner of Parkway Hyundai and other dealerships and that he is very giving because of the heart he had. That because the dealer is family owned they will do many things to get people into a new car. I wish there was a way I can pay it forward and I’m sure I will figure something out. But for now, I want to say thank you so much!
