Harvest Festival Introduces Pumpkin Cooking Contest, Pig Races, Food Trucks and More
Gilchrist Farm is excited to announce the second Pumpkin Patch and Harvest Festival this October beginning Saturday, September 30 through Halloween, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We have some exciting new offerings this year!
After it seemed that everyone was looking for a great pumpkin recipe last year, we decided to partner with some local chefs and culinary schools to offer a Pumpkin Cooking Contest this year on Saturday, October 7 with judging at 2 p.m. There will be cash prizes for the winner of each category and $200 for the grand prize winner. More importantly-major bragging rights! We’ll be compiling all the best recipes from the contest into a Pumpkin Cookbook that will be for sale to raise funds for local non-profits throughout the Harvest Festival and the year. Contest categories include: Main Dish (soups, salads, sandwiches, casseroles); Desserts (cakes, breads, cookies, pastries, and tarts); Miscellaneous (beverages, appetizers, low-calorie, etc.); and Youth Categories (ages eight to 12 and 13 to 18). Judging takes place Saturday, October 7 at 2 p.m. Entry forms, rules and up-to-date details online at www.gilchristfarm.com.
Returning this year to the Harvest Festival are goat milking demonstrations, live entertainment and music, local dance and studio performances, bake sale fundraisers, caramel apples, local vendors and artisans, pumpkin painting and farm crafts, face painting, pony rides, wagon rides, petting zoo, straw bale maze, all kinds of pumpkins and corn stalks. We are also continuing to offer free admission to the Straw Bale Maze with a Food or Necessity Donation for the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.
We have some exciting additions this year, including Pig Races, a Straw Slide, Food Trucks, and to enhance the Bake Sale Fundraiser for local non-profit groups we are adding Chicken Splat Bingo! This fun game is a live action bingo, where the chickens call the shots by “splatting” on bingo squares. We’ll also have a pumpkin cannon and shooting games.
Free parking. Free admission. Individual activities are mostly $5, with a value pack available. Special scout and group activity packs available.
