Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Improving the Lives of Women through Service, Advocacy and Awareness.
Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley continues to engage members to support established projects and programs such as LifeForward free workshops designed to empower and provide sustainability for women; Girls Robotics that helps girls learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills by building and programming Lego robots; Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Program and “Say No to Violence Against Women” – 16 days of Advocacy; plus scholarships and grants that assist women and organizations to improve the lives of women. With over 60 members, the Club is planning fund-friend raising events to support the endeavors. Business meetings, where status and further planning occurs, are held the second Wednesday of each month; also information regarding updates of events and activities occurring at District 9 and Zonta International level are presented.
District 9 Conference – comprised of 25 clubs located in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah – will bring Zontians together in Tempe, AZ on October 5, 6 and 7, 2017. This provides Zontians an opportunity to see friends, make new friends and learn more about the ideals and all things Zonta.
Zonta International (ZI), along with other organizations around the world, celebrated International Literacy Day on September 8, under the theme, “Literacy in a Digital World.” The goal was to “look at what kind of literacy skills people need to navigate increasingly digitally mediated societies and to explore effective literacy policies and programs that can leverage the opportunities that the digital world provides.” Over the years, Zonta International Service Program has provided much needed training, education, health, sanitation, agricultural and micro-credit assistance to women in countries of need, primarily through projects implemented by the agencies of the United Nations and other recognized non-governmental organizations.
Locally, Zontians are working with young women in pursuit of student clubs that will further ZI’s belief that young people are critical to achieving gender equality and ending violence against women and girls around the world. Z clubs are formed on secondary school campuses and Golden Z clubs are formed on college and university campuses and are designed to further ZI’s mission to empower women through service and advocacy to students. Golden Z and Z club members plan, organize and participate in unique activities that give them hands-on experiences in improving the lives of others at both a local and international level. These activities enhance leadership skills, enhance understanding of global issues, and expand personal and professional networks.
