There are many ways you can find out what’s going on in your community. One of the easiest comes right to your mailbox in the form of the quarterly Seasons City Information and Recreation Class Schedule. Jam packed with activities, events and valuable City information, it is your one-stop spot for all the happenings in Santa Clarita.
The winter edition is out now and on the cover you’ll see local children from one of our many City programs standing in the shape of a 30, to honor our City’s big birthday! Inside the pages you can find information on classes for everything from dog obedience to spice blending and little musketeers fencing to video game design. I encourage you to try something new, learn a new skill, or just enjoy being active in our community.
Speaking of being active, the Santa Clarita Marathon will be running through town on Sunday, November 5, 2017. The day will include a full marathon, a half marathon, a 5K run, Mayor’s Walk and a Kid K run. All races will begin at 7:00 a.m., with the exception of the Kid K, which will begin at 8:00 a.m. To kick off the Santa Clarita Marathon and get in the racing spirit, the City will host a pre-race Health and Fitness Expo for everyone to enjoy on Saturday, November 4, 2017. The free Health and Fitness Expo will be held at Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall on Town Center Drive from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will feature dozens of health-related vendors and information booths.
The fun continues this month with our premiere holiday event – Light Up Main Street! On Saturday, November 18 come to Old Town Newhall for shopping, snacking, live entertainment and the beautiful illumination of thousands and thousands of holiday lights! The festivities start at 2 p.m. with the Old Town Newhall Sip N’ Shop. Participating merchants will offer promotions, treats and unique, beautiful holiday gifts. Then head over to the Newhall Library where a 23-foot-tall Christmas tree will stand near the stage where local groups will sing and dance you into the holiday spirit. At 7:00 p.m. the Santa Clarita City Council will officially turn on the lights to illuminate overhead displays on Main Street, thousands of twinkling lights and the Christmas tree. In addition to the lights and entertainment, food trucks will line Main Street offering savory and sweet options, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos.
Make sure you keep your copy of Seasons handy so you will have all the information on other upcoming events like the Fine Craft Show, Holiday Lights Tour, Polar Bear Swim and much more. We are proud of all the fun and unique offerings the City of Santa Clarita provides to our residents. I look forward to seeing you around town enjoying all the wonder 30 years of cityhood has provided us!
Best Regards,
Ken Striplin
