Tell Me Something Good – November 2017

by | Oct 26, 2017 | Community

You know it seems as of late, it’s been a bit tougher to find good news out there. So, as we begin our anniversary edition of Tell Me Something Good, I am on the hunt to share some positive news with our readers. Just one year ago we premiered this column, which was inspired by a morning radio show bit sharing positive news. It has snowballed into a full year of sharing positivity, and encouraging the good around our City. Some of the many things we would love to share include: the birth of a child, a job promotion, pay off of a car/college/loan etc., act of kindness, green business solutions— you get the idea…
Share your story with us by emailing it to us with a photo if you have one, to editorial@santaclaritamagazine.com.
Stories will be shared in order of submission and may be seen in a future month.

Addressing Homelessness in the Antelope Valley
The shelter crisis in the Antelope Valley requires immediate action. Last month, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion to fund two new emergency winter homeless shelters in the community. Utilizing both Measure H and Fifth District Homeless Initiative funding, the motion directs the County Chief Executive Office to work with Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority to open the Lancaster National Guard Armory with 125 shelter beds and the former High Desert Multiple Ambulatory Care Center with 100 shelter beds.

Project Linus Blanket Making Day
On October 7, the Santa Clarita Valley, Antelope Valley, Sylmar and Los Angeles County chapter of Project Linus came together for a fun-filled day. Academy of the Canyons hosted the Make a Blanket Day for all families, friends, and students that wanted to help make a blanket for children. The volunteers were treated to three different types of food trucks, along with music, and help from experienced blanket makers. This year’s Make a Blanket Day was very important to the families who currently live in shelters. As the colder months approaches us, they hope to give everyone a blanket to keep themselves warm as some shelters are in desperate need for more.
