Holidays for Heroes – Heartfelt Thanks for Our Troops Overseas & Our Veterans
Community members are spreading holiday cheer across the oceans to our local deployed troops, working like busy little elves throughout October and November, to ensure that they all get a Special Care Package from their own hometown. Working together on holiday crafts, making cards and filling care packages, all ages come together to volunteer with Prayer Angels for the Military. The goal is to put smiles on their faces as they open up their Christmas care packages or their Hanukkah packages, thousands of miles away from home. These gifts of holiday treats and comfort items, including warm winter beanies, scarves and throws are always a welcomed site. Donations and cards for the holiday care packages will continue to be collected through Dec 9 to be shipped in time for the holidays. Winter care package items will continue to be collected and mailed out through January. These are great as it gets real cold in Afghanistan and it snows!
Santa Clarita coming together is what makes all of this possible. Families, individuals, groups, schools, churches, businesses, kids and seniors. Large collection drives at Saint Claire’s Church, Newhall Church of the Nazarene and Charles Helmers Elementary School CDC have also made it possible to support some adopted troops without families, making their holidays special, too!
COC Valencia Veterans Resource Center co-hosted a couple of care packing events on campus, giving a big jumpstart to spreading holiday cheer to our troops.
Holiday Gift Baskets for our local veterans in need and/or the items to assemble them will be collected through December 16. Gift cards are always needed. Remembering our veterans and helping them out when needed is so very important. It’s the least we can do. The giving of a simple warm scarf can let a veteran know they are not forgotten.
Donating a vehicle to help our military can get you a great tax deduction. Donate a car, truck, SUV, RV, trailer or a boat. Arrange by December 31 to get a tax credit for this year. Most vehicles accepted, running preferred, free towing available. Contact Dale at email or call 661-799-8865.
