“The Nutcracker” presented by Dance Studio 84
On December 14 and 16 in the Hart High Auditorium, Dance Studio 84 will present “The Nutcracker Ballet”. This long established local dance studio first presented the holiday classic in 1985, before many Santa Clarita residents were even familiar with the E.T.A. Hoffman story set to astounding music from Tchaikovsky.
Over the years, their production has become a holiday tradition for our community. The talented ballet instructors and choreographers – Connie Russo, Wendy Wickman, Michele Bachar and Ashley Calendo Mann – create new choreography every year to make each production different from all the rest. “The Nutcracker” is about a young girl, Clara, whose family hosts a holiday party. This year, Aubrey Rogers will dance the role of Clara. Clara’s godfather Drosselmeir, featuring Amanda Koontz, has created dolls which come to life to entertain at the party. To her delight, Clara is presented with a nutcracker, another of Drosselmeir’s creations. That night, Clara’s Nutcracker (Lara Ray) comes to life to battle the Mouse King (Emma Seegmiller). After the battle, the Nutcracker transforms into a Prince, featuring Coby Petersen. The prince escorts Clara on a journey through the Snow Forest, where dancing snowflakes are led by Nicole Park in the role of the Snow Queen. Land of the Sweets is the backdrop for dancers from many different lands as they entertain the Prince and Clara. Featured spots are all performed by Dance Studio 84 students selected at an audition in August, including Julia Izu, as the Dew Drop Fairy. The Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Brianna Gonzalez, a West Ranch senior. A cast of 200 ballet students fill the stage with joy as they present the full length, classical ballet in the Hart High auditorium.
Group discounts are available for the Thursday performances and we hope to help provide the opportunity for community groups to experience this heartwarming, cultural production. For ticket information, visit www.dancestudio84.com or call 661-775-7655.
