Is Dieting Enough for Weight-Loss?
So many of us here been there, diet after diet, only to wonder why it is so hard to lose weight and keep it off.
Is there a secret to weight-loss success?
Many would argue that there isn’t just one secret, but a multitude of ways to increase one’s ability to lose weight. Eating in moderation is definitely a good start and so is regular exercise. Avoiding sugary drinks, eating less processed food, increasing protein and drinking plenty of water have also been linked to maintaining a healthy weight.
Exercise is definitely a key factor leading to sustained weight loss. Studies find that people who report the most exercise also sustain the most weight loss. A program that involves both strength training and cardio activities will help build lean muscle and aid in decreasing body fat. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, to lose weight. To prevent regaining weight, increasing the activity to 250 minutes per week is recommended.
Another secret to success involves setting smart, realistic fitness and health goals. S.M.A.R.T is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. At Henry Mayo Fitness and Health, S.M.A.R.T. goals are used to help members develop a plan to achieve weight-loss success and stay motivated. Experienced staff helps guide clients to a healthier and active lifestyle.
“I love what we do because we get to educate the community and transform lives at the same time,” said Sharlene Duzik, Director of Member Services at Henry Mayo Fitness and Health.
