Showtime is 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; variety acts include musicians, singers, dancers, comedy, magic, and more. Proceeds benefit brain cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Vincenzo’s Pizza and the Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts (SCSOPA) are sponsors for this event on behalf of Jack’s Angels Foundation. Auditions are Sunday, April 22 at SCSOPA, 23502 Lyons Ave, Santa Clarita, CA 91321, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., open to all ages and variety acts. Vincenzo’s Pizza will be offering a variety of dinner specials for enjoyment of the show and good food together.
Jack’s Angels Foundation is a local 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to awareness and research for DIPG, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, arguably the deadliest pediatric cancer for which there has been no change in standard treatment protocol nor its terminal prognosis in over 50 years. The urgent need for pediatric cancer research funding made advocacy for brain cancer, the leading cause of death in children with cancer, an obvious necessity to Jack’s Angels founder Janet Demeter, who lost her son Jack to DIPG in 2012. Thanks to the support of local government officials, the movement for DIPG Awareness Day began here in Santa Clarita in 2014 with then Assemblyman Wilk, now State Senator; Steve Knight was CA State Senator at the time, in the drafting of the first Awareness Resolution for DIPG. Knight worked with Jack’s Angels to create the DIPG Awareness Resolution, H.Res.69, currently in the US House of Representatives for DIPG Awareness Day May 17; it asks for greater research funding consideration for pediatric and high-risk cancers which have been historically underfunded. In 2017, there were 21 States with a DIPG Awareness Resolution including California. The event celebrates our local artistic talent and local support for children with cancer.
