May is For Our Military

by | Apr 27, 2018 | Community

National Military Appreciation Month – Observed annually during the month of May Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the chance to show their appreciation for members of the Armed Forces, past and present. Each year, the President makes a proclamation, reminding us of the important role the U.S. Armed Forces have played in the history and development of our country. We honor, recognize and express appreciation to all those men and women who have served, all who now serve in uniform, their families, and those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms we all enjoy today. Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day are observed in May. Please take the time to reflect upon the sacrifices of our military and let our service members and veterans know that we care about them.
Care Packages for SCV Hometown Troops is a call out to local businesses and community members to remember and support our local troops! It’s National Military Appreciation Month and a great way to say “Thank You” to our troops, is with a heartfelt care package from their own hometown. To let them know they are not forgotten, we appreciate their service, and the sacrifices they make for us. Prayer Angels for the Military, local 501(c)3, has organized SCV’s community care packing events for 15 years, and there are still many local troops to support during their deployments. Local schools and groups are always encouraged to make cards to go inside the care packages.
