Message from the City Manager Ken Striplin – June 2018
This summer, help your kids break away from Fortnite and YouTube – by signing them up for fun recreational opportunities offered by the City! Instead of screen time, their days can be filled with sunshine, learning, activity, arts, culture and much more.
To get you started on your summer calendar, grab the latest edition of Seasons magazine or log on to santa-clarita.com/seasons. For children ages three to 15, Camp Clarita is always a popular choice. Camp days are full of friends, crafts, games, music, skits, science, swimming, free-play and field trips. Camp Clarita is available at parks throughout our City. Our two community centers in Canyon Country and Newhall, also offer everything from specialty camps and afternoon programs to drop-ins and family nights.
If your child is all about sports – then sign them up for football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball or tennis camp. Our amazing partners also offer a wide range of specialty camps that will add variety to your child’s summer. For kids who love to perform they can take part in acting, singing, cheer and dance camps. For those with an eye for science they can learn chemistry, geology, physics and even something called “Grossology.” This class is all about body functions with an opportunity to dissect insects, squids and more! Kids can even put their culinary skills to the test with camps based on the popular cooking shows “Chopped” and “Cake Boss.”
Don’t forget the best way to beat the summer heat is at one of our City pools. There are a variety of water safety courses, swim/diving teams, water exercise and even H20ga…which is yoga, in the pool, on a floating mat! Or just drop in for Recreational Swim to jump off the diving boards or fly down our 160-foot waterslide. To make sure your kids are prepared for the wet and wild fun – sign them up for swim lessons. Classes are offered for all skill levels and abilities.
Just because the sun goes down, does not mean the good times have to end. There are many family friendly activities in the evenings! Take your kids for an entertaining dip at one of the Dive in Movies, immerse yourself in art, culture and entertainment at Thursdays@Newhall events and of course, Saturday nights are for Concerts in the Park. We have a full line up of the best tribute bands around, ready to rock the night away. Make sure you also mark your calendars for the always popular Great American Family Camp Out coming up on June 23 at Central Park and the Canyon Country Summer Bash on June 29.
With so many opportunities to explore, learn and play – this summer is shaping up to be nothing less than sensational!
