Yoga Versus Strength

by | May 25, 2018 | Health & Fitness

Why do you do yoga?  Is it to relieve stress?  Is it for the physical fitness and health benefits?  Do you use it to combat pain and other health problems and other medical issues?  There are so many components of our lives that yoga improves it’s sometimes hard to nail down.  For most of us, it is a way to connect to our higher self.
Some participants use yoga specifically to develop strength.  While this can be an effective way to develop stronger bodies, prioritizing strength requires a bit more specialization.  But strength training isn’t a better way to fitness.  It’s a fitness enabler.  Strength training is a way to improve your yoga practice as well as gain the benefits of resistance training.  By focusing on the development of muscle mass, bone mass, and functional strength, you will improve the ability to appreciate your yoga practice.
Proper functional strength training will result in increased muscle strength, power, and endurance.   You will see your yoga practice improve as well as everyday tasks like lifting, carrying and walking up the stairs.  Coupled with the correct nutrition, body composition management becomes simpler and even fun.  If you want to improve your yoga practice and discover more of the benefits of yoga, train for strength.  The Six-Week Strong Yogi Challenge at Hot Yoga Haven is not your typical challenge! You will learn how to achieve results through yoga and strength conditioning.  Learn how to prioritize your training, balance tension and flexibility, and enjoy all the benefits of yoga and strength.
