What Does it Take to Be a Volunteer?
All non-profit charity organizations depend on volunteers. The trick for the volunteer is to choose the organization that you feel you can be effective in helping. It’s important for you to do your volunteer homework. Find out exactly what the volunteer duties are, and if you think you can fulfill the Obligation, then make an interview appointment with the organization of your choice.
Blue Star Ranch volunteers must meet our qualification standards. Because we work with large animals, and do a lot of fund raising our volunteers serve in many capacities. Our volunteers must meet our minimum age requirements of 18 years because of the work we do. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and backgrounds. Many are recently retired and searching for a place to spend some time, and give back to the community. Our volunteers also share a love of animals. Even if they have never been with horses before, as animal lovers they quickly adapt to being trained in working with horses. Our volunteers are very dedicated. They always show up on time, because once they commit to a schedule at the ranch, we are dependent on their participation. We all find caring for the horses very relaxing, rewarding, and fun. Each one of them is as unique as each human is unique. They like to play, run, buck, and jump. And they are smart, and many have a great sense of humor.
Volunteers also help us with our fund raisers. Passing out flyers, helping at events, and help to spread the word and educate groups on our work. We are always available for lecture dates to any club, or civic organization.
By volunteering at Blue Star Ranch, you are not only helping care for our therapy horses, but you are helping many of our veterans to return to a happy civilian life with their families.
So, if you are looking to be a volunteer and serve your community do your volunteer homework. If you do, you will be prepared for your commitment, and benefit the most from your experience.
Our next Fund Raiser is August 25th. A Motorcycle Poker Ride. Check Calendar Section for details.
