City Manager Ken Striplin
Canyon Country is known as a major residential area in our City, as well as a popular commercial and retail spot. It is also known for the large equestrian estates of Sand Canyon, the natural beauty of Placerita Canyon, being home to the popular Aquatic Center and Sports Complex, and the future home of the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Soon, Canyon Country is going to be known for so much more. The first major change already taking shape is the removal of older buildings and massive billboards at the corner of Soledad Canyon and Sierra Highway. Within the next two years, the nine acre site is going to be completely transformed into the new Canyon Country Community Center. This site will be a hub for enrichment opportunities, community events, activities, cooking classes, sports, fitness, life-long learning and so much more. The new Center will be a welcoming landmark to people entering this part of our City.
Residents of Canyon Country also have new dining and entertainment opportunities on the horizon, as the Sand Canyon Plaza moves closer to reality. The approved plan is a mixed-use project on 87 acres, which will feature homes, retail and restaurants, as well as an assisted living facility, situated around a stunning water feature. Sand Canyon Plaza is expected to begin construction in 2019.
Meanwhile, work is well underway on Vista Canyon. Located at the end of Lost Canyon Road near Sand Canyon, this community will include homes as well as retail, office, hotel, dining, services and entertainment space. More than half of the community is expected to be dedicated to parks, trails and community open space. Vista Canyon will also be home to an additional Metrolink station in the City.
With these exciting projects already in the works, Canyon Country residents, and the community as a whole, have a lot to look forward to.
