Light Up Main Street

by | Oct 29, 2018 | Community

The City of Santa Clarita’s annual tree lighting ceremony and holiday kick-off event, Light Up Main Street, returns to the premier arts and entertainment district in Old Town Newhall on Saturday, November 17. Attendees will once again be able to come together for an evening of fun, activities, shopping and holiday cheer.
Prior to Light Up Main Street, which begins at 6 p.m., the merchants of Old Town Newhall will host their yearly “Sip N’ Shop,” a community event that rewards residents and visitors for shopping locally. When visiting participating businesses in Old Town Newhall from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., shoppers will be able to enjoy great discounts and light snacks while discovering the perfect gifts for the holiday season.
A full set of performances as part of Light up Main Street will begin at approximately 6 p.m., with a stage set up on Lyons Avenue in front of the Old Town Newhall Library. Portions of Lyons Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic, while Main Street will be closed south of Lyons Avenue as well. A full set of road closures and times will be announced once details are finalized.
The main event of the evening will take place at 7:30 p.m. when members of the Santa Clarita City Council officially turn on the lights to illuminate a 23-foot tall Christmas tree in front of the library, as well as fixtures and displays along Main Street.
Performances will then continue on the main stage until 9:00 p.m. Light Up Main Street attendees will enjoy a variety of activities for all-ages, including the opportunity to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Food trucks will be located on Lyons Avenue by the library, selling a range of dinner and dessert options, and a number of businesses along Main Street will be open during the event.
Free public parking for Light Up Main Street will be available in the new City-owned parking structure on 9th Street and Railroad Avenue in Newhall, as well as at the Newhall Community Center (22421 Market Street) and in several lots on and around Main Street.
The City of Santa Clarita would like to thank participating sponsors Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Re/Max of Santa Clarita, Snow Orthodontics and Valencia Auto Center for their support of Light Up Main Street.
