"Parentgiving" Website Offers Assistance to Adult Children Caring for Elderly Parents

Parentgiving.com is a new website created to help time-starved caregivers of aging parents.  Its “Learning with Parentgiving” section provides checklists at your fingertips for securing caregivers, preventing falls, steps to take if a parent is denied Medicare coverage, legal documents you may need and information needed in emergencies.
They have numerous sections with articles on topics such as: Aging in Place, Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Caregiver Essentials, Nutrition Necessities and Being a Care Manager. A section is devoted to Elder Care News, providing a page on U.S national and state news and including international and medical news on the issues of the aging.  A roundtable of professional care managers contributes articles with a current blog on subjects from the professional care manager’s perspective.  Nicky Silverstein contributes a blog on the everyday elder care issues she faces as a 15 years caregiver to her 91-year-old mother-in-law, Shirley.

The website runs forums identified as the “Alzheimer’s and Dementia Exchange;” “Making Diabetes Easier to Manage;” “The Nursing Home or Nurse-In-Home” — this forum explores how to help parents stay in their home with the help of care giving alternatives, technological advances and ideas from the public; “Caregiver 101: Support for Newcomers” — helping caregivers to get a handle on their responsibilities and “Ask the Care Manager” — where leading professional geriatric care managers from around the country answer your most frequently asked questions — from financial issues to care giving topics.  You can post your question to obtain preliminary advice. Whether you are a new caregiver or have been caring for your aging parents for years, Parentgiving.com is a site to consider in answering your questions and stream your time, which will hopefully reduce your stress and simplify your life.  For more information, check out www.parentgiving.com .
