A Note from The Publishers - August 2011

We are so honored to be a part of the wonderful group of professionals who will be recognized at this year’s Legacy of Hope Gala, Imagine…More Birthdays!-our cover story this month.  When Moe and I found out we would be receiving the Legacy of Hope Award for Leadership in Community Awareness, we were truly humbled.  We are pleased to have been a part of the American Cancer Society and their efforts to help fight cancer and will continue to support their efforts.  As a cancer survivor, it is a privilege for me to share the cover with the doctors of Vantage Oncology, who will be receiving the Leadership in Health Care Award. I’ve experienced firsthand the commitment and dedication of these professionals, particularly Dr. Zimmerman, who was my radiation doctor. These doctors work tirelessly to help their patients and ensure they have access to life-enhancing services.  Also on our cover is Judith Harris, two-time cancer patient and ACS supporter.  Judith will be receiving the 2011 Award of Distinction.  The Gala will take place on August 14 at Robinson Ranch.  For the complete cover story and details, see facing page.
On August 4, College of the Canyons student, Nicholas Flores will be honored at the SCV Chamber of Commerce luncheon.  Because of Nicholas’ patriotism, leadership and courage as he served our country in the war on terror, he is the first recipient of the Ian Gelig Desert/Storm/Operation Enduring Freedom Warrior Scholarship.  Thank you Nicholas, and to all who have fought or continue to fight for the freedoms we enjoy today.  For more information on the luncheon or the scholarship program see page 10.
For all you golf fans, there are a few opportunities to tee off for a good cause this month.  On August 8, the Nicole Parker Foundation for Children will be hosting their annual Golf Classic at the beautiful Robinson Ranch.  For details, see page 23.
College of the Canyons Foundation will also be hosting a golf tournament on Monday, August 8.  The tournament will be held at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia and will benefit important programs at the college.  Turn to page 32 for more information.
From the golf course to the poker tables, there’s much to do in our Valley.  On Friday, August 12, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Foundation will hold their 2nd Annual Poker Tournament fundraising event.  Support the Foundation and enjoy an evening of food, poker and fun at the Bridgeport Community Room in Valencia.  Turn to page 14 for details.
Enjoy the beauty of William S. Hart Park and experience the “reel West” for an evening of fun as the Friends of Hart Park host their Silents Under the Stars fundraiser.  For more information, turn to page 20.
If you’re looking for professional services be sure to check out this month’s Business Directory on our gloss pages this issue.  It includes listings for legal and financial services, real estate consultants and other business professionals.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer!

Until next month, Linda, Moe and Alex Hafizi
