First, I would like to report that our winner for the Oratorical area contest was Paulina Cedillo.  Paulina is an eighth grader from Le Mesa JHS and went on to compete for the $2,500 scholarship award in Bakersfield on Mothers Day.  She competed against two other young ladies from different areas, and I hope to give you the good news next month.  Good luck Paulina.
A special thanks to Caruso’s restaurant for once again hosting our annual “Light The Night” evening, and thanks to all the community members who came out and supported us.  Watch for our up and coming event where we will be inviting friends and guests to attend a NOW (New Optimists Welcome) program. Have you ever thought about hosting a student from another country?  Well if your answer is yes please contact me so that I may give you additional information.  The students will be attending local high schools for the school year of 2012-2013.  This is a great opportunity for you and your families to meet, greet, live and learn about other cultures and at the same time practice public diplomacy.  The motto of Optimist International is to continue “Bringing out the Best in Kids” and I can’t think of a better way to do it than to open up our homes and share our lives with kids from another country.
We are hosting a Bunco Night at our Optimist Youth Home in Eagle Rock (our main campus) on June 9.  It is a first come, first serve as we can only accommodate 80 people.  The cost is $30 per person and includes dinner.  Monies raised from this event will go into our endowment fund.  To our non-optimist friends and family members this is a great time to see our facility, meet some of our great kids and staff.  Trust me once you have seen our place, you will ask us if you can join us and be a part of this great organization.  Call me at 661-252-7313 or email me at deegov@socal.rr.com to purchase tickets.
