Thomas Kinkade died peacefully and unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Monte Sereno, south of the Bay Area near Los Gatos, surrounded by the beauty and nature that he so loved.
Kinkade’s artistic passion was always to convey his very personal, idealized vision of the world. It was a world rich with warm light, a world that beckoned the viewer into gentle gardens, inviting cottages, seascapes or street scenes of small town streets brimming with the joy of humanity and unabashed nostalgia.
As Thomas Kinkade said, “It is clear that everyday people need an art they can enjoy, believe in and understand.” His popularity, success and global acceptance never distracted him from his mission, “With whatever talent and resources I have, I’m trying to bring light to penetrate the darkness many people feel.”
Without doubt, Thomas Kinkade created a mold for himself that is now broken and will be missed by his millions of fans, many of whom have flocked to galleries to buy works as word of his death spread. Many came to pay respects and many came to invest in another work, feeling that his works will grow in value down the road.
Thomas Kinkade will be remembered not only as one of the most popular and successful artists in history but also for his many charitable works, for his strength as a family man and for his drive to bring beauty and art into the homes of millions.
As a long-time dealer of Kinkade art, representing one of the largest domestic Kinkade distributors, B&R Galleries wishes to express our gratitude to Thomas for the warmth, light and artistry he brought to the world. We wish him well and will do our part to ensure that his art and vision live on.
