Summer is here and there’s so much to do around town.  If you haven’t stopped by Thursdays @ Newhall on Main Street, here’s a preview of the fun that’s planned for upcoming evenings.
Senses On Main Street
If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience a Senses event, there is no better time than this summer.  Senses on Main Street is a free, themed block party hosted by the City every third Thursday of the month in Old Town Newhall.
The event is designed to heighten your sense of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound and each month the event delivers one of the best sensory experiences in the Santa Clarita Valley, complete with live music, food trucks, street performers, art displays, activities, and opportunities to eat, drink, and shop on Main Street in an after-hours environment, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
In just one year, more than 20,000 people from across Santa Clarita have connected with the concept, dressing up and heading over to Main Street to enjoy a flashback to The 80s, an evening on the Vegas strip, the glitz and glam of Hollywood, the thrill of Zombies, the allure of Superheroes, the flash of Mardi Gras, and a trip back in time to relive the Wild Wild West.
Upcoming events include: Beach Party on Thursday, July 19; Rockabilly Night on Thursday, August 16; and Pirates on Thursday, September 20.
Thursdays @ Newhall – Farmers Market and ArtWalk
The free Senses events are part of the City’s Thursdays @ Newhall event lineup, which also includes a Farmers Market every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Art Walk on the first Thursday of each month from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Farmers Market is under new management and organized by Coastal Pacific, bringing together some of the regions best fresh fruits, vegetables and spices, as well as great specialty food vendors.
Art Walk is yet another opportunity for residents to enjoy the arts.  Each month ArtWalk introduces attendees to a new form of art, from painting and photography to fashion.  Scores of artists are set up along Main Street and within various businesses, demonstrating their art while attendees enjoy live music and food trucks on the street.
J.A.M. Sessions in Old Town Newhall

This summer, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission in partnership with the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, will bring an eight-week series of J.A.M. sessions to Main Street in Old Town Newhall.  Every Thursday at 6 p.m. you can explore a new music or dance style while enjoying ArtWalk, the Farmers Market and Senses.  J.A.M. session dates and themes include: Drum Circle on July 5, Pacific Island Dance and Song on July 12, Salsa/Rueda on July 19, Samba on July 26, Bluegrass on August 2, Hip-Hop on August 9, Swing on August 16, and Bollywood on August 23.  
So this summer, as you are making plans for the weekends and your summer days, don’t forget to head over to Main Street in Old Town Newhall to enjoy the Thursdays @ Newhall events – Senses, Art Walk and the weekly Farmers Market – where you can celebrate Santa Clarita’s summer nights with fresh foods, art, culture, entertainment and a whole lot of summer fun.
