Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center at College of the Canyons Holding September 2012 Open House

Community members are invited to attend an Open House at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center located on the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.  The event, which will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday September 13, will provide prospective students with information about the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered through the Center by partner institutions.

Attendees will be able to talk to university representatives, learn about financial aid programs, meet with counselors and fill out admissions applications.  In addition, attendees can learn about the many new programs to be offered in the Center.
The Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center currently hosts more than 35 programs offered by partner universities such as CSU Bakersfield, CSU Northridge, CSU Los Angeles, University of La Verne, Brandman University (formerly known as Chapman University) and National University.
Cited as the college’s solution to the lack of upper division, graduate school and continuing education programs in the Santa Clarita Valley, the University Center was created with a goal to increase student access to advanced degrees by forging partnerships with surrounding four-year colleges and universities — which then make their academic programs available to students through courses offered in the University Center at College of the Canyons.
Available at the University Center for the first time in 2012 are programs in the areas of:
MS Criminal Justice (National University)
Applied Behavior Analysis Certificate Program (National University)
BA Sports Psychology (National University)
MS School Psychology (University of La Verne)
BS Engineering with an emphasis in Manufacturing (CSU Los Angeles)
The National University master of criminal justice will provide an overview of the required management and administration skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the challenging fields of criminal justice administration, and research and development.
Meanwhile, the institution’s applied behavior analysis (ABA) certificate program will prepare students to be able to apply various methods of behavior analysis in order to present data and information related to the successful modification of patient behaviors.  The sports psychology program has been designed for students preparing for a career in professional coaching, and includes in depth focus on the application of psychological principles to the field of athletics.
New from University of La Verne is the school psychology master’s degree program, which offers training in the principles of counseling and psychology, while preparing individuals to work with students in age groups ranging from infancy to adolescence.
Rounding out the list of new programs is the bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in manufacturing technology being offered by CSULA, in which engineering students are trained to use their skills/knowledge to seek out ways of continually improving manufacturing processes to run more efficiently.
The University Center is best accessed via University Center Drive, the southernmost campus entrance on Rockwell Canyon Road.  Parking in the campus parking lots 13, 14, and 15 is free for this event.
