Join the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as they will be Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis at their annual GREAT STRIDES event on Saturday, April 24, at Westfield’s Valencia Town Center. Join a team, form a team, donate and walk, and be a part CF Foundation’s largest national fundraising event, all to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Since 1955, the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those living with the disease. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease affecting the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. When the CF Foundation began, few children with CF lived to attend elementary school, however today, thanks to the advances in research, medical treatments have enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. The median age of survival for a person with CF is now 37 years. And while the outlook for children born with CF today has improved, we need to find a cure. Your financial support is critical to the successes of helping find a cure. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar of revenue raised is available for investment in vital CF programs, which support research, care and education. Their mission: “Adding tomorrows every day” to the lives of all people with cystic fibrosis.
Since 1989, GREAT STRIDES has been the CF Foundation’s largest event. Participants of all ages are encouraged to collect donations to help support life-saving CF research and care. “It’s our biggest event,” states Gilllian Stone, Director of Special Events. “Last year we raised $60,000 and this year our goal is to raise $70,000.” Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sign up to be part of a team or form your own. Participants will take three laps around the mall, with music and lunch to follow.
