A Call For Help

Aldous Huxley wrote, “Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens.”
It is with great sadness that we discovered that the Senior Center, an organization we strongly support, had been broken into last month.  A call for 1According to a deputy report, a suspect entered the Senior Center, stole keys to one of the delivery trucks and used it to repeatedly ram the fence to damage the gate so it would stay open.  He abandoned the damaged truck and drove off in another stolen truck.  The stolen truck and damage to the Senior Center’s property estimate to nearly $63,000.
The Senior Center’s trucks are used for their Home Delivery Meal program, which is inscribed on the rear and both sides of the truck.  It is devastating to the Senior Center, as they currently have 10 routes, with only nine trucks to deliver food to an ever-growing community of seniors in need.  Now, the Senior Center is down to only seven trucks. Aside from the meals being nutritious, these seniors look forward to their special deliveries by a special someone who comes to their door to stay awhile and spend time with them.
The Senior Center’s staff and volunteers have been working extra hard to make sure the Home Delivered Meal deliveries are made as scheduled, despite this unthinkable robbery.  Local police are still seeking information to the capture of this person.
“We are experiencing a great pouring of support and people wanting to contribute to our need,” states Kathy Crone, Senior Center’s Director of Fund Development. Through the generous contributions of businesses in the valley and grants, we were prepared to receive a brand new HDM delivery truck. Now we are down to seven trucks for 10 routes. I know many in the community are outraged that someone would think it’s “fun” to steal from our non-profit. We don’t, and many in the community feel the same way. “Our community is giving and caring,” states Patti Rasmussen, president of the Santa Clarita Senior Center foundation. “Our hearts are full when we hear from you. Thank you in advance for your support.”
For more information on how you can help, please visit the Senior Center’s website at www.scvseniorfoundation.org. Turn this tragedy into something positive and give back to our seniors.
