Filming in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita is located in the 30-mile zone and is one of the most film-friendly areas in L.A. County. With its beautiful scenery and parks, movie ranches such as Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch, Old Town Newhall, business and office parks, College of the Canyons, Town Center Drive, power plants and more - Santa Clarita makes a perfect match for almost any landscape, terrain, or architecture in the world. The City provides affordable and quick turn around permits for production companies. The fact that our City makes filming easy and affordable makes it a pleasure to work in this community and attract as much filming as possible
Secrets of Success
Merriam-Webster defines “success” as a “favorable or desired outcome”. This still leaves a lot of room for defining “desired outcome”. For some people it is personal; they want strong marriages, good kids, and close relationships with friends and family. Other people seek success in business; brand recognition, multiple locations, and strong finances. Still others are striving for financial success; large investment accounts, high returns, and early retirement. In actuality, we would like to experience success in all areas of our lives, but we don’t always know how to do it.
Where Did Your Debt Problems Come From?
I was counseling someone the other day in my office. He looked shocked and confused as we sorted through all the credit card statements on my desk and added up how much he owed – $65,000! That’s how much the statements said he owed! How could this be? He said he remembered paying a lot of these debts off just a few years ago. When I asked him how it was possible for him to owe that much again, he replied: “Honestly, I don’t even remember.”
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is coming up and I am getting excited. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Thanksgiving is a non-religious holiday and everyone is included. As I watch Thanksgiving celebrated in my neighborhood, I see gatherings of families and friends to help each other celebrate the holiday. In years gone by I have celebrated with others by participating in a “Turkey Trot” in Ohio, many “Turkey Bowls” here in California, my version of the annual “Crank n’ Stein Turkey Ride” in the Santa Clarita area, and the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends.
Methods of Division of Community Property Other than by Judicial Intervention
There are alternatives to having the court decide who gets what in marriage dissolution. You can do it yourself and control the process without having the court do it for you. Here are just some of the methods that can be employed. An “in kind division” is where each party takes one-half of fungible assets such as bank accounts, stock, IRA accounts, etc. Another method is where the parties agree to “trade off” certain assets for others. This method is usually done without regard to value whereby one party simply agrees to take certain items of property and the other agrees to take other items of property, a kind of horse trade.
Recent Trends and the Need for Uninsured Motorist Coverage
I have been litigating injury cases for 15 years and I have noticed that there are trends in the law and the insurance industry. One new trend appears to be the amount of insurance today’s drivers tend to carry.
California law only requires that drivers carry $15,000 in auto liability insurance.
Big Changes in Workers Compensation on the Way
Many of my readers will recall that in my prior articles, I have discussed such things as psychiatric Workers Compensation claims, sleep disturbance claims and even sexual dysfunction as a psychiatric claim. These “sequelae” issues, which usually are alleged to extend from an underlying orthopedic injury, may well be a thing of the past.

Ways to Get Your Offer Accepted To Buy a House in a Seller’s Market
There are thousands of lists of home buying tips available across the Internet, but remember, every market is different. Below is a list our team put together specifically for the Santa Clarita area home buyers, based on the California Residential Real Estate Purchase Contract. This list won’t ensure every offer you ever make will be accepted, but one or several of them could help your offer stand out!
The Job Search “Run Around”
In this feature, I’d like to give several tips on how to get past the “screeners” to actual decision-makers who can positively influence your job search success. This topic has been prompted by the recent stories of people who have been treated almost like “stalkers” by companies they were approaching for career opportunities. Conversely, I have recently been in conversation with absolutely excellent corporate talent-acquisition professionals. Why is it so hard to get in the door to many companies?
Ways to Help Your Children During Divorce
Many clients and mediation participants ask me how they can best help their children cope with a divorce.
Here is short list on how to start:
1. Purchase books to help you explain what is happening. My personal favorites are Dinosaur Divorce by Laurence Brown and Marc Brown; My Two Homes by Claire Masurel; Its Not Your Fault, Koko Bear by Vicki Lansky.
Importance of Communication in an Organization
Communication is one of the basic functions of management in any organization and its importance can hardly be overemphasized. It is a process of transmitting information, ideas, thoughts, opinions and plans between various parts of an organization.
It is not possible to have human relations without communication. However, good and effective communication is required not only for good human relations but also for good and successful business.
Are You Living Within Your Means?
As a bankruptcy attorney and financial recovery counselor, I see a lot of people who are spending way beyond their means. They are always struggling to make ends meet and yet they do not have a clear plan on how to spend their money. In other words, they do not budget.
I know most people hate the word “budget” because it sounds like being on a diet. Some people also equate a budget to failure or lack. Some see it as a sign that they’ve failed in managing their finances and now must be “punished” by a restrictive spending allowance.
How Much Do I Need to Save for Retirement?
As you’ve probably heard it said before, it’s never too early to start planning for retirement. How much do you need to save to be comfortable after you stop working? What factors should you consider to help in the planning process?
The traditional approach to calculate spending needs in retirement is to use a percentage of pre-retirement income as a guide.
Message from the City Manager Ken Pulskamp
As we begin the last quarter of the year, your City is planning a host of great community and family-oriented programs and events. Message from the Mayor Frank Ferry September 2012
I thought I would take this opportunity to share a few things we are working on at City Hall that may be of interest to you.
The City’s Capital Improvement Program is very robust this fiscal year, with several new projects planned. In Valencia, we are currently out to bid for the new Park and Ride Center at the McBean Transfer station. In Canyon Country, we are currently out to bid for the Lost Canyon bridge widening project.
The Need for Adult Schools
Adult education in California began in 1856 during the early years of statehood in the basement of St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. Then, as now, many adult students were immigrants, learning to speak English and studying subjects as varied as drafting, bookkeeping, and elementary academics.
Stand Back! My Corporate Shield Protects Me… Right?
For most small business owners, the hustle and bustle of running a business leaves little time to deal with the many formalities incidental to running a business, such as maintaining financial records and memorializing loans between the business and the owner. For those who run their businesses as a sole proprietorship or general partnership, there is less concern about the failure to maintain these formalities because these forms of business ownership are not afforded limited liability –the owners are personally liable for the debt and expenses of the business regardless of the name assigned to the debt or expense.
